Aaron Koblin

Aaron Koblin's experiments with crowd sourcing shined light on the ways in which technology can be manipulated to create a new experience. The Arcade Fire music video, for example, broke through the barriers of a 16x9 window and utilized the entire web browser. He and his partner took existing technology (HTML 5 and Javascript) and, with the assistance of participants, created an experience unlike anything else. Creativity knows no bounds when multiple minds group together to work towards one goal. Each frame in the Johnny Cash music video is unique, and the wide-ranging personalities and techniques mesh together into one piece of art. I think artists are by nature reserved and private. Crowd sourcing brings artist's work into the light and, most importantly, provides each artist with a sense of purpose. Each note sung in "Daisy Bells" is like a brick in a house. Each note is necessary to completing the foundation. Aaron Koblin's experiments are very cool and push

The animation I just witnessed was a choreography between sound and visuals. As the music flowed, so did the shapes and colors. And as the the timbres changed, so did the visuals. The lines appeared like a plucked guitar string oscillating to the rhythm of the accompanying music. Blots of paint turned into cars and I imagined a city seen from a birds' eye.
